PREVENTIVE AND PERIODONTAL DENTISTRY
PREVENTIVE CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY

  • Sealants - This procedure is designed to be an aid in deterring cavities particularly in children. The teeth are given a coating, which is a painless procedure done without anesthetic. This coating will prevent the penetration of bacteria into the tooth, the same bacteria that causes decay.

  • Topical Fluoride Treatment for Children - This application is recommended for most children. It is usually done in the office when the teeth are cleaned.

  • Fluoride Dietary Supplements - Depending on where you live and the quantity of water your children drink a fluoride supplement might be advisable. Fluoride dietary supplements have been proven to increase the durability of the enamel coating on the tooth, consequently preventing decay. Please inquire if a supplement might be advisable for your children.

  • Growth and Development - Every child should be monitored on a regular basis, for growth and development. Eruption patterns, tooth development, and oral-facial growth all need to be addressed on a semi annual basis during normal cleaning appointments.
In addition to regular exams, prophylaxis (cleaning) and good home care, we recommend a few other preventive procedures. Please, if you have any questions, feel free to ask one of our staff or individual dentist. We are here to help and support the community with their preventive dentistry programs.

PERIODONTICS:

Many people do not realize that periodontal (gum) disease is the major cause of tooth loss in adults. This disease affects the gums, bone, and other supporting structures of the teeth. If not treated, it can cause the loss of even cavity-free teeth. The method of treatment depends upon how far the disease has progressed. Most importantly, if any disease is present regular maintenance will help to control it. Regular visits to the dentist will help prevent perio disease. You don't have to lose teeth to periodontal disease. Brush your teeth every day with fluoride toothpaste; use dental floss daily; and eat a healthy diet. Proper home care and routine professional therapeutic cleanings will allow you to maintain good dental health. Our dental hygiene staff can help you with all your daily oral hygiene procedures.
